Application Policies

We do have an application process. To begin applying, please contact us at 4carlins@comcast.net. We will send you an application, which you can fill out electronically and email right back to us. We try to make sure that the animals are not bought as an impulse purchase, but as a decision to welcome a new member into your family. We occasionally ask to visit the home or request pictures of the cages in which the chin will be kept. Some of our rescues require a lot of rehabilitation, and we go the extra mile to make sure they are going into an environment that will be best for their well-being. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SALE  if we feel that the enviorment is not appropriate for one of the chins. The application process will ensure to us that you know how to properly care for the chinchilla. It might even teach you a few things that you might not have know before!

Payment Policies

We accept Paypal payments as well as cash. In order to hold a chin or pick one up, the payment must clear first. If paying by a check via Paypal or postal mail, chins will not leave our facility until the payment has cleared. NO EXCEPTIONS!

There have been a large number of reports of people purchasing chins with checks and the checks have bounced.

 

 

Adoption Policies

All chins that are surrendered to us, will remain in our care for at least thirty days. This allows us to evaluate the chinchillas personality, as well as provides enough time for us to spot any illness.

All animals, cages, supplies, and donations of any kind given to Chillin' Chinchillas becomes our property. It goes towards the care of the animals in our facility. It costs money to care for animals, and the donations are needed to allow us to continue helping the animals.

The adoption fees are non-negotiable. They are set on a chin by chin basis in order to ensure a good home. For example, a chin that came to us in poor shape that we have rehabilitated over a period of time will have a higher adoption fee. This is to better ensure a stable environment, as well as contributing to the costs to get him/her back to new.

Another reason for higher adoption fees is due to the increasing reports of backyard breeders looking at rescued chinchillas as "cheap breeding animals". Rescued chins are NEVER FOR BREEDING. One of the main purposes of breeding is to improve the species. Rescued chins do not have pedigrees. If you cannot trace the bloodline, you should not breed the chin. That is also the reason for the application process. We try to ensure that these chins get the homes that will give them the most love and the best care.

All chins, whether adopted or purchased, should be quarantined for at least 30 days. They need this time to get settled in a new environment. This also prevents any undetected ailments from being spread from chin-to-chin in your home. Do not put a new chin immediately in with a chin you already have. If they are intended to be cagemates, they need to be introduced slowly. It must also be understood that the chins may not get along immediately, or possibly ever. You should have a spare cage on hand for quarentining and possibly a permanent home for the new chin. Not following these guidelines can result in an injured chinchilla. We will not be held responsible if you do not abide by our policies.

We do our best to evaluate the animals. We rescue these animals from all sorts of situations, from horrible conditions to simply the owners don't have enough time to care for them anymore. We are not responsible for any illnesses that may appear. The donation to the facility will not be refunded.

Sales Policies

A 50% deposit will be required to hold a chin. Deposit policy as follows:

  • If the deposit is for a kit, it will hold the kit until two weeks after the chin is eight weeks old. If the chin is not picked up at that time, the deposit will be forfeited and the chin will be resold.
  • If the deposit is for an animal that is ready to go, the purchaser has two weeks to pick the animal up. If the purchaser fails to do so, the animal will be placed back up for sale, and the deposit will be forfeited.
  • If something is to happen to the chin prior to the scheduled pick up time, the deposit will be refunded.

If the customer is unhappy with the animal, they must contact us within 14 days. In most cases we will accept the animal back with a 50% refund. We will not refund the deposit. The only exception to this rule is if the animal dies and the customer can provide documentation from a vet, pending a necropsy, stating that the animal died as a result of our negligence. We also require that you provide a picture of the deceased chin so we can identify that it was one of ours. This is for our protection after numerous reports of people not following care instructions or those trying to scam breeders.

In any other case of the owner being unhappy with the purchase later down the road, we can accept the animal into our rescue.

We do not ship at this time, but I am willing to meet within a reasonable driving distance. I charge a fee to do this, which is based on current gas prices.

 

Product Policies

If you are unhappy with your product, please contact us immediately so we can resolve the issue. If the product is damaged upon arrival, we will be happy to replace the item. You must return the item to us, so we can assess the damage. We test the products for durability and evaluate them before they are packed and shipped. If you would like a refund, we will refund the price of the item once it is received in a timely manner. The item must be postmarked within five days of you receiving the item to be eligable for a refund. We do not refund shipping costs.

We do not take any responsibility for any injuries that may occur by misusing any of our products. We have studied and tested our products for an extended period of time with no problems.
